Halfway through term already?

We've been very busy in Year 4. Not only have we looked at Boudicca's rebellion in history, we've also studied Roman armour and formations, and are now testing the strength of different shaped columns to see if the Romans really knew what they were doing building that civilisation two millennia ago.

We've completed our first unit in science exploring sound, and we learned about the properties of sound, such as the fact that it needs to have a medium to travel through, and it can be insulated against by scattering the waves. We also did a bit of Morse code to explore one of the earliest mixtures of sound and electricity.

The children are learning about the holidays in French, and have recently completed a booklet about Pierre et Monsieur Bonhomme de Neige (Mr Snowman). Continuing their Roman theme in Art, they are completing some colourful mosaics. They have learned about Hinduism in RE. Year 4 are learning programming in Scratch, which they are eating up!

In PE we have completed a unit on invasion games, where we had the children invent their own game on a field with a ball, a point system, and defined rules. We have also been working on dance, and right now we are finishing the Haka!

We have completed our Greek Mythology unit in English and are now working on non-chronological reports, where we are about to start researching an animal to write a report about. Soon we will move on the modern poetry, including free verse.

We've moved through many concepts in Maths, including the commutative properties in multiplication and addition, equivalent fractions and lines of symmetry in shapes, as well as many others.

We are now gearing up for the Christmas season, including Anti-Bullying week next week.

Welcome back!

It's a new school year with a new teacher, Mr. Thompson, and his teaching assistant, the ever able Mrs. Roberts.

We have already been busy in Year 4, starting an English unit on Greek Mythology and a (semi-related) history unit about the Roman Empire and the conquest of Britain. In science we are studying sound for the Autumn term, and in PE we will be learning dance and invasion games. The children are starting their French lessons, doing Roman-related art, and e-safety in computing.
Here's a nice picture of two boys showing off their knowledge of Roman gods through the medium of dance. As you can see, they have Mars, the God of War, down pretty well.

Homework started this week, so remember to check you children's packs for their homework and reading books. They will have a spelling and times tables test every Thursday. We have a Reading Ladder for the kids to rise up if they can prove they've been reading to their parents, so make sure you sign off in their reading books so they can get proper credit.
We've loved having the Year 4's in the last week and look forward to a great year.

Tuesday 30 June 2015

Attention footballers!

All people that played this year for the school football team can you please bring your socks back.
If you think you have brought all of your kit back including your socks can you just make sure that you have checked and are totally sure that you have brought them back.
We are missing three pairs of school football socks so we are asking you to have a look at home and see if you have any.
This is directed to all football players that have played this year.
We need these socks for next year otherwise some football players will look very odd when they play their matches!
I am a part of the school football team myself and I really want to have the socks in school for next year.
Thank you for reading this and please look at home if you have any football socks

Help needed!

We have the summer fair coming up on the 4th July and we need parents help to run our stall. We are having a book stall again as we are still buying books for the library. You would only need to do half hour slots (more if you want!) but any help is appreciated!

Another instrument!

 Now we have a flute!

From the double bass to the clarinet!

We're giving the double bass a try!

It's pretty tricky playing the thick strings on the double bass!

Music assembly

We are really lucky at Sandridge to have so many musical adults working with us. This morning Mrs Kelly and Mrs Taylor are playing just a small selection of their instruments for us!

They are currently playing jazz for us!

Monday 22 June 2015

Prasutagus is disgusted at the Roman's behaviour!

Prasutagus explains how he made the deal with the Romans to keep the peace for his people and now the Romans have broken their promise!
This is his outraged face

Boudicca tells all!

Boudicca explains her reasons for leading the revolt against the Romans.
The Roman soldier on the left doesn't agree! He says they just wanted to use the land to support the people!

Hmmm the Romans have got a point!

According to the Roman Emperor and the General, they did the Celts a favour! The General thinks that Boudicca could never have led her tribe after the king died as she was just a girl and they would use the land better!

We're outraged!

Prasutagus and Boudicca are here, they're not happy at the Emporer's reasons for taking all of the land!

Jeremy Kyle comes to Sandridge!

Today we are exploring the actions of Boudicca by inviting all characters involved to the Jeremy Kyle show! Prepare for some conflict as the Emporer just arrived!

Picnic time!!

We are sat outside having our picnic with the parents!
True the sun is being a bit shy but we're all excited!

Monday 1 June 2015

Fantastic programme on!

I know it's late but you might be able to get it on catch up for the children to watch tomorrow.
It's called Rome's invisible city on bbc 1. It's so interesting!
Miss Carr

Today we're Roman mosaic designers!

Yes it's the first day back and yes it's messy as always!
This morning we looked at the mosaics from Pompei and now we are designing and making our own! They look fabulous!

Tuesday 28 April 2015

A peaceful house later!

We have our first trumpet player in year 4! We've had a little listen and he's doing brilliantly! Have fun parents!

Sunday 26 April 2015

22 miles and still looking fab!

She's reached Brunton street

Well at least I think she has! The app has finally started working and it looks like she's going along commercial road and is going past Brunton Street! Hmmm having looked, she could be in Canary Wharf? Her market has moved rather a lot in the last 2 minutes?
Keep going Mrs I!

Half way!

The app isn't letting me see the map but Mrs Impey is now half way!
Has anyone spotted her on TV yet?

Marathon day!

The big day has finally arrived for Mrs Impey!
I'll be tracking her on the app I was telling you about in class on Friday and letting you know how she's getting on. Below is a picture of her view so far that she sent me this morning.
So before they get started we want to wish Mrs Impey and Mrs Pratt and huge good luck!

Thursday 23 April 2015

Soggy but happy!

So our first swimming session is complete! We are on our way back to school hungry but happy!
Just to let parents know, the children are allowed goggles if they wish!

Roman day

A few pictures from our first day back!

Our first swimming lesson!

The excitement levels in year 4 are ridiculously high this morning! We are off for our first swimming lesson of the term!
Expect very sleepy children later!

Sunday 19 April 2015

Fancy dress tomorrow year 4!

Just a reminder that the children can come into school dressed as Romans or Celts tomorrow!

Monday 30 March 2015

Planning an Easter menu!

We have been thinking about the different foods eaten around the world at Easter and now we are designing our own menus!
Ellie is going to have lamb because it represents Jesus and we usually eat it at Easter.
Sophie is going to have pea soup for a starter as in Germany they eat green foods on Maundy Thursday.
Felix is going to serve cabbage soup for his starter,Kyle is going to serve lamb with vegetables for his main and Anna and Rhiannon are going to serve a sponge cake with a jam filling and a cross on the top for the dessert.
