What a lot of noise!

We were doing an experiment with the straws. First we either trimmed a little bit of the straw off or we left the straw as normal. Then we flattened the top of the straw that we were going to use, before we made an arrow on the top of the flattened piece of straw. We were trying to see if the pitch could be changed and why.

I am the mummy Heb-nefert by Kyle

Beside the River Nile, the sun beamed down on the golden sand. On the sandy banks, people were wearing sandals. On summer's day the sun was bright and hot in Egypt.

Inside the house, the slithering snake was somewhere looking for rats.

On a beautiful, sunny morning Heb-nefert was laying on the ground beside the River Nile.  The sun was very hot on that day.

Heb-nefert was the most beautiful girl in the whole of Egypt.

On the edge of the village the nomarchs house sat.  That night she had to go to the ball to impress the pharaoh and his brother Ti.

Early one morning Heb-Nefert and her father approached the royal palace. Heb-Nefert's heart was beating wildly. She saw the golden sandstone palace and felt amazed. She got to the throne room that seemed very beautiful to her. She saw all sorts of jewellery placed around the golden room.

Heb-Nefert's dancing was stunning. The pharaoh whispered "She's quite good."
With all Heb-Nefert's might she twirled and swirled. "I wish I could marry her this minute!" murmured Ti in reply to the pharoah. "Will she make a good royal wife though?" he asked.
The pharaoh replied "We will see when you marry!"

They were soon married and they were husband and wife.
They were dancing and Ti whispered "you're so beautiful!" Heb-Nefert went red.

The next day they were in the garden. In the garden it was very peaceful. The moment they returned to the palace a little snake appeared. It bit Heb-Nefert and she lay dead.

Ti died heartbroken.

Anti bullying poem by Megan

Your heart is as hard as stone,
When you see me, you smile evilly as if you don't remember  when we were friends. Do you?
Do you see how you are just an error in my shameful life,
And now here I am getting more scars and cuts every second.
How and why do you make your identity a mystery?
Do you see me treading in fear to my dark, cold corner where blood was shed?
Can you hear my cries for help slowly fading away as no-one notices?
Why, I keep asking, are you so mean please answer me?
Your fist, a hard cold machine ready to do its job.

When I see you, your face is full of fear,
Now I don't know why I do it.
Now it is a habit that can't be stopped, constantly going on.
Can this be what this has done to me all I have been through I never thought of you?
Now I am sorry, now I can see
Now we can be friends like we were once before.
Now we can be friends you see, for all eternity, for all we live.

I am the mummy Heb-Nefert By Joseph

Beside the River Nile where the sun was beaming down on the scorching sand, the River Nile was gleaming because of scorching sun. A short distance away from the River Nile, a small settlement sat on the brownish, yellow sand. It was impossible to walk on the sand barefoot on the sand because it was heated by the humungous sun. A snake slithered by the settlement with its scales slowly getting hotter. Its scales were browner  than mud.

Inside one of the houses a person was busy making bread and collecting water. The River Nile was shimmering and making the slightest ripples as a crocodile crept along the bank.

Rising early in the morning sky, the sun was unaware of the exciting events that were about to happen to a girl named Heb-Nefert. Inside Heb-Nefert's house Heb Nefert  was busy squabbling enthusiastically about the biggest event in her young life. Her dad was extremely nervous about everything because he was trying to make everything perfect.

When they set off on their gargantuan journey, Heb Nefert's father muttered " Oh I don't know about this. What if we aren't ready?" But he knew if he would ever get to the palace he would have to persavere.

As they approached the russet brown palace, they saw jade green palm trees and a steel blue sky. Two guards were standing at the door with the straightest face ever. They were dressed all in shining armour that was made of the finest tin. " Do you have an appointment with the pharoah?" asked one of the guards showing his loyalty. "I do. It's at 4:30. It's for the pharoah and his brother." replied Heb Neferts father. "State your name and business please." asked the second guard carrying on the conversation."I am Joseph and I am a nomarch."stated Heb Nefert's father. " You may pass!" exclaimed the guard.

As they entered the collossal palace they saw paintings that were framed in gold as well as silver

I am the mummy Heb-Nefert by Fahd

Many, many year ago in Ancient Egypt the sun was shining down on the golden sand. A short distance away from the River Nile there was a village with little houses. At the end of village there was a big house where the Nomarch lived .Sometimes the palm trees gave shade from the sun.

At the edge of  the village there was a girl called Heb-Nefert.  She was a very good dancer and her mother died.  Heb Nefert looked very beautiful. she was the colour of the sun, she even smelt like flowers.

Our first steps in fundraising!

Parents and friends of the school will know that we are in the process of raising funds for a new a project on reading. I'm lucky enough to be working with an amazing group of parents who have offered their help in many ways and on Friday we had our first event. We had donations of cakes and biscuits from parents which were then sold in the library with tea. The tea will become more popular as the winter sets in I think! :)
They then sold these with the books that were kindly donated at the end of the year, this will be a regular event so don't worry if you missed out! It was also lovely spending some time chatting to the parents and children outside of the classroom!
So you may be wondering where your money will be going,as a group we have set out the phases of spending to improve our library. First bit will be to update the books! If you want to know more about this project or if you think you can help in any way then let me know!
I'll update you with how much we managed to raise once we're back.

Have a fantastic half term everyone!

Book fair thanks!

We haven't added up the total of money raised from the book fair yet but I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the children and parents who supported this. We are at a really exciting stage with the development of our reading and this will give us the kick start we need to update the books we have in school.
Again I can't thank you enough for this week and as soon as I know how much we have to spend on books I'll put it up here.

Eid mubarak!

Eid is a celebration that Muslims celebrate. It happens twice a year and Muslims get presents and pray in a mosque in the morning for an hour or so. Every year it happens a different date. There is Eid al fitr and Eid al udha. The whole family come over and open presents and play. We eat food such as dates,Somosas and roty. Every year I go to my nana's house my cousins come as well.

I can't wait until EID!

We've got some very creative children in year 4!

We have been blown away by some of the amazing pieces of homework coming in!
In this piece we have a fantastic model of the pyramids of Giza, they were cut out of card and then glued with sand.
Not only this but she also made us a menu and crossword to test our knowledge!

Then we have a beautiful model of an Egyptian boat, this was made out of card and then carefully painted.

We then have a model of one of the pyramids, this has bern carefully cut so you can see all the steps and then painted. It looks amazing!

Well done year 4 on these amazing pieces of homework! You have worked extremely hard on these!

Teachers in the making!

Today we had to learn about different triangles,Miss Carr then made us teach a mini lesson on them. We had to be really good at drawing them properly and explaining about the sides.

Our 2D shape sort

We used symmetry and straight sides to sort our 2D shapes out. We thought of ways to sort like how many corners. We knew all of these shapes even the irregular ones!

A perfect pyramid!

These are the pieces of work we love! We set homework projects over the term to encourage the children to be creative with their learning and as you can see we've got off to an amazing start to the term!
We have a Pyramus made entirely of sugar cubes! These were glued together and then painted. The model even has Egyptian characters!

Next we have an Egyptain canopic jar. You can see all the jewels and gold over it which mean it must've been for someone special,

The third project we had was from Megan, she brought in a mummy she had made complete with canopic jar! The poor doll had to be mummified to come into school! Homework can be painful!

Well done year 4!

Brilliant Banksy and his paint

One week ago brilliant banksy's aquaintences helped us to create stencils to make fabulous spray painted art. When we were spray painting we looked like dentists! It was awesome being able to try something new and creative. We made two pieces of art representing our school. We made two stencils with the first letter of our name and of a symbol that means a lot to us! When we were doing it we had to wear glasses that helped protect us. We had to spray in lines and not continuelly because that would spray too much paint and it would drip! The paint was very dangerous to peoples eyes even though it was non toxic. Then we took our stencils home.

By Felix, Joseph and Junayd
Thank you for reading!
We hope you like it!
Remember to not do this at home as it is very dangerous!

Blogging

We are learning about Blogs and how they are used. The Blog is important because it sends information all over the world.Contacting other places is good for some people as it helps them know the world better, also others can find what happens around in different parts of the world. We have to be carful as the internet can be a dangerous place. So we don't put both our first and last name, our address, how old we are, also don't take a picture of yourself with your name under it.

PGL by Billy and Jaden

On the weekend we went to PGL. It was our first time we had gone away for more than one day so we were really excited! We went on activities such as the trapeze, Jacobs ladder, giant swing, zip wire , cops and robbers in an actual mine, we also had a water fight, we both got drenched! We went to the beach and told scary stories. Jaden went to bed at 3 am and Billy went to bed at 11 pm. As well as this, Billy found a WW II  bunker on the beach .We went by bus for about 2 to 3 hours and ferry for about 45 minutes. On the bus I made a loom band necklace for Mrs Impey. Also we had lots of fun on the PGL trip because of all of activities we did and we were playing football in our free time.

While we were on the PGL trip Billy got player of the year for his football team it was great, I was doing the trapeze at the time! My mum text Mrs Impey who was the teacher supervising us. When I heard it I slung my arms in the air like I had won an Olympic gold medal!

Proud to be Sandridge!

As a teacher there will be moments throughout the school year that you are filled with pride. Perhaps a child has achieved something they have been working towards, perhaps they overcame a challenge or perhaps they have shown an particularly good attitude.
Today was a day that I experienced all 3. We took some of our key stage 2 children to the district sports tournament, something our school hasn't done in a while, and it's fair to say they were truly amazing. Not only did they give 100% in every single activity but they did so with such positive attitudes and such encouragement towards others that it made me more than I can express!
If you took part or if you supported then you are one of the things that make Sandridge a truly wonderful school. Yes I'm a soppy and slightly over emotional teacher but you did us proud
Well done all!

Year 4 become film stars!

Year 4 had, in their own words 'one of the best days ever!' yesterday.
We were lucky enough to be visited by a company called Frontline Productions who came in and showed us a perfromance based on the life of Sergeant Walter Tull.
We then worked with the year 3 class in workshops on artefacts, we saw some amazing things that were actually in the war 100 years ago such as grenades that had been made safe. We also saw uniforms from the war.
Our next workshop was drama, we had to act out different scenarios in groups all in silence (yes we managed it!) and then this was put in a short film. They added music and sound effects to our film and we watched it at the end of the day.
It was perhaps one of the most amazing sessions I have seen in a school, the children really engaged with the men leading it and found out so much about the war as well as this you could see they really started to understand the emotion attached to the war.
We came back after the session and did a writing lesson based on the activities, you will be so impressed with the results! These will be uploaded later but for now here are some photos showing you our day!
